Through Our Gifts, God Gives Gifts

God’s work is our work. The Gospel message is about giving. Philippians 4:13, the well-known passage repeated by memory by so many Christians (perhaps it was your confirmation verse!), “I can do all things through Christ who gives strength”—even this verse is set in the context of giving. Paul had experienced all kinds of troubles and blessings while serving the Lord, and guess where his support came from? Yes, of course, from God—but from God THROUGH the local church, the people that had been blessed with the Gospel of Christ through Paul’s ministry. As a response of gratitude, God’s people gave financial support to the apostle who had preached the Gospel of Jesus Christ to them. It is a privilege, not a burden, to participate in this act of giving for God’s kingdom, knowing that God will take care of whatever else we may need. Can you think of a time when God met your needs through the generosity of someone else? How did you experience that? What are some ways that God has used you to meet the needs of another? What might be the net result if each of us as God’s people made ourselves available for His purposes?
