CloseWe have come to Good Friday; it is the hour of darkness. As our Lord suffered on the cross, darkness literally comes over the whole land. Figuratively, the whole world has dwelt in the darkness of sin and death since the fall of Adam and Eve. There on the cross, Jesus enters into full-on battle with that darkness—and from all appearances one might conclude that the Powers of Darkness have had their day. Do not, however, discount the words that Jesus speaks. They reveal His graciousness, His humanity, His confidence that His sacrifice as our substitute is complete, and they point to the triumph He brings. We hang on His every word, for His words bring life out of death, an Easter triumph after Good Friday.
