Today in WorshipBecoming a Cheerful Giver” • 2 Corinthians 9:6-15, Deuteronomy 23:21-23, Luke 7:36-50. How does one become a cheerful giver? By knowing the temporal (this worldly) and eternal impact our giving can make. God knows our financial situation and He knows that not everyone can give the same amount. But the principle stands: Everyone is to give in a sacrificial manner, taking into account the resources with which God has blessed them. We are to be intentional, planning ahead of time what we give to God’s kingdom. As any endeavor where we desire to be successful, giving requires a plan—with an evaluation of our current situation and firm faith in God’s provision. Our God has infinite resources to provide for us and bless us. When we lift up our eyes to the Lord and consider what Jesus has done for us, and as we look at the world around us and see the great need for God’s work to be done, we will understand that it is a privilege and a joy to contribute to the extension of God’s kingdom on earth. Even more than that, we will see a harvest of righteousness as those touched by God’s power give thanks and praise to the Living God. Why is our generous living and cheerful giving important to God? How ought we measure the blessings that God has given to us? How can we respond in proportion to those blessings?
