Week of October 22, 2023

Today: “The God Who Gives…His Challenge to Us” • Luke 14:25-35; Isaiah 40:28-41; Philippians 3:12-21 • Today the words we have from Jesus challenge us. He calls upon us to count the cost of following Him. It is a tall order to be a disciple, to honor, trust, and love God above all things. It is the tallest order to take up our cross and follow Jesus. The paradox of grace is that God’s Son has given everything to make us His own, to transform our lives, to empower us to live as the people of God. In fact, it is impossible to count the cost of discipleship without considering all that Jesus has done for us. Prayer: We thank You, Jesus, for giving all. By the awesome power of Your Spirit, enable us to take up our cross and follow You.

We appreciate you and all that you do/have done in your years of ministry! We thank God for you, Anne and Eric!

Appreciating our Church Workers —

Pastors:
Thank you for preaching God’s Word and keeping our faith and life focused on Jesus Christ; for speaking God’s Word and bringing Holy Communion when we are ill or homebound; for baptizing our children, instructing them toward Confirmation, and preparing them for Christian marriage; for your pastoral care in our most difficult days and in our most joyful ones.

DCE:
Thank you for your commitment of giving people of all ages in our congregation’s opportunities to learn God’s Word; helping our youth build Christian relationships with one another; giving them the experience of youth gatherings and servant events — that they may know Christ and live in their Baptism.

Deaconesses:
Thank you for your humble presence of service and mercy in our congregations and for teaching us all to do the same; for caring for women and children, the elderly, handicapped, those with special needs, and all those to whom you show mercy by sharing God’s Word and His love in Christ. You help us connect with our community and lead us to bring Jesus to others in ways we would never have dreamed possible.

Director of Worship & Music:
Thank you for leading us into the presence of the Living God through the songs, hymns and liturgy in our congregation; for your hours of practicing on your own and rehearsing our choirs and ensembles; for your planning, choosing music for the church year, preparing for festival services and teaching the future musical leaders of the church.

Director of Senior Adult Ministries:
Thank you for faithfully calling upon us. You visit us in the hospital and in our homes. We break bread and experience Christ’s presence. You ensure that God sees us, understands our life situation. You convey to us that we are never forgotten and still have value among the children of God.

Preschool Director & Teachers:
Thank you for helping bring little ones to Jesus. You care about the children and shine Jesus’ light upon their families. You remind all of us to have faith like a child. You teach us and display how God is patient with us, how our Heavenly Father delights in us, how His love surrounds us.

Directors of church ministries:
Thank you for the many and various things you do in our congregation and school — from leading our youth to overseeing all Christian education, from serving in our schools to leading our music programs, from overseeing church administration to specializing in outreach. You remind us that at Prince of Peace/Príncipe de Paz, God has blessed us with many, many staff members, both paid and unpaid.

All who serve the church:
Thank you for your faithfulness, commitment, and selflessness in teaching God’s Word, that we may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing we may have life in His name (John 20:31).

Thank you to Lu Burchfield for giving us the above list which we adapted for Prince of Peace/Príncipe de Paz.
