ClosePerhaps nothing highlights how Jesus had come to change the world than His activity as God’s Servant-Sufferer. First of all, Jesus—the Lord of all and the Master of the universe—has come to take on the very nature of a servant. He does so in order to take our place, for we are unable to break the shackles of sin that bind us. He rides into Jerusalem knowing death by crucifixion awaits Him. He presses on, knowing that this will change everything…for us…for all people. The divine drama of Holy Week begins with the shouts of Hosanna as Jesus enters Jerusalem, with every pathway leading Him toward the cross. As we walk this way with Jesus, with the one who bears our shame and our death, whom will we invite to walk with us? Jesus, the Servant-Sufferer, bears the need of all, and His path ultimately leads to the glories of His empty tomb.
